Mushroom Turnovers Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c sliced onion
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsps all-purpose flour
  • 1 lb mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/4 tsp thyme
  • 3 tbsps butter
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 tbsps sherry
  • 1 1/2 (8-oz) packages cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 c butter, softened
  • 2 1/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c sour cream

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 3 ingredients.
  • Step #2 Shape dough into a ball; cover & chill 1 hr.
  • Step #3 Melt 3 tbsps butter In a large-ish skillet over med-heat/flame; add onion, & sauté 12 mins or until onion is golden.
  • Step #4 Stir in sliced mushrooms, & sauté 3 mins.
  • Step #5 Stir in thyme, salt, & pepper.
  • Step #6 Sprinkle top 2 tbsps flour evenly over mushroom mixture.
  • Step #7 Stir in sour cream & sherry.
  • Step #8 Remove from heat, & set aside.
  • Step #9 Pat or roll chilled dough to 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface; cut with a 3-inch round cutter.
  • Step #10 Spoon 1 tsp mushroom mixture on half of each dough circle, fold dough over filling.
  • Step #11 Press edges together with a fork to seal.
  • Step #12 Place turnovers on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Step #13 Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 mins or until edges are lightly browned; brush tops evenly with melted butter.
  • Step #14 Note: To make ahead, place uncooked turnovers in a single layer on baking sheets, & freeze.
  • Step #15 Transfer frozen turnovers to large zip-top plastic freezer bags, seal & freeze up to 1 month.
  • Step #16 Place frozen turnovers on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Step #17 Bake as directed.
