Pennsylvania-dutch Apple Butter Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 3/4 c packed brown sugar
  • 6 1/2 c sliced peeled Granny Smith apple (2 lbs)
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 1/4 c apple cider
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine apples & cider In a large-ish saucepan or Dutch oven.
  • Step #2 Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, & let simmer 40 mins or until tender.
  • Step #3 Place apple mixture in a mixer or food processor/blender; process until smooth.
  • Step #4 Combine pureed apple mixture, sugar, & remaining ingredients in pan; bring to a boil.
  • Step #5 Reduce heat, uncovered, & let simmer, 25 mins or until mixture is thick, stirring frequently.
  • Step #6 Cool.
  • Step #7 Store butter in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 2 months.
