Custard Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c sugar
  • 2 tbsps vanilla extract
  • 8 c milk
  • 6 eggs, beaten

Directions
  • Step #1 In a heavy saucepan over low heat/flame, cook & stir milk & sugar until sugar is dissolved.
  • Step #2 Remove from the heat.
  • Step #3 Stir in a small amount of hot milk mixture into eggs; return all to the pan, stirring constantly.
  • Step #4 Cook & stir until mixture reaches 160 degrees F or is thick enough to coat a metal spoon.
  • Step #5 Remove from the heat; stir in the vanilla.
  • Step #6 Cool to about room temp, stirring several times.
  • Step #7 Transfer to a bowl; press a piece of waxed paper or plastic wrap on top of custard.
  • Step #8 Refrigerate.
  • Step #9 Serve over gingerbread or lb cake.
