Cheddar With Sautéed Apples And Brown Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tart-sweet apples (such as Gala, Braeburn, or Fuji), each cored & cut into 16 wedges
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz extrasharp cheddar cheese, cut into 16 slices
  •  Cooking spray
  • 4 (1-oz) slices pumpernickel bread

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 400°.
  • Step #2 Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Step #3 Place apples in a medium bowl; sprinkle with sugar & cinnamon.
  • Step #4 Toss well to coat.
  • Step #5 Coat pan with cooking spray.
  • Step #6 Add apple mixture, & cook 4 mins or until thoroughly heated, turning frequently.
  • Step #7 Remove from heat; cool slightly.
  • Step #8 Cut each bread slice crosswise into 4 strips.
  • Step #9 Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  • Step #10 Bake at 400° for 5 mins or until tops are toasted.
  • Step #11 Turn strips over; bake for 3 mins or until the tops are toasted.
  • Step #12 Cool completely.
  • Step #13 Serve with apples & cheese.
