Beer-and-cheddar Fondue Recipe

Ingredients
  • 6 tbsps butter
  •  Cubed French bread or sliced pears
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 6 tbsps all-purpose flour
  • 1 (4-oz) can sliced green chiles
  • 1/4 tsp ground red pepper
  • 2 (8-oz) blocks Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 c beer*
  • 1/2 lb ground pork sausage
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 c milk
  • 1 garlic clove, sliced

Directions
  • Step #1 Cook ground pork sausage In a large-ish saucepan over med-heat/flame, stirring until it crumbles & is no longer pink.
  • Step #2 Drain & remove sausage from pan.
  • Step #3 Melt butter in saucepan over med-heat/flame; add onion & garlic, & sauté until tender.
  • Step #4 Add flour, stirring until smooth.
  • Step #5 Cook, stirring constantly, 1 min.
  • Step #6 Gradually add milk, stirring until thickened.
  • Step #7 Add cheese, stirring until melted.
  • Step #8 Remove from heat; stir in the sausage, beer, & next 3 ingredients.
  • Step #9 Transfer to a fondue pot or slow cooker (aka crockpot); keep warm on LOW.
  • Step #10 Serve with cubed French bread or sliced pears.
  • Step #11 *Nonalcoholic beer may be substituted for regular beer.
