Surprise Calzones Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c sliced fresh basil
  • 1 (14 1/2-oz) can sliced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 c (4 oz) shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 (10.2-oz) cans put in the fridged jumbo biscuits
  • 2 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 (15-oz) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 c (4 oz) shredded provolone cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Stir together first 7 ingredients.
  • Step #2 Split biscuits in half; roll each half into a 4-inch circle on a lightly floured surface.
  • Step #3 Whisk together egg & 1 tbsp water in a small bowl until mixed.
  • Step #4 Spoon ricotta mixture evenly onto each circle, leaving a 1-inch border.
  • Step #5 Top evenly with tomato.
  • Step #6 Brush edges lightly with water.
  • Step #7 Fold dough over filling.
  • Step #8 Press edges with a fork to seal; prick tops.
  • Step #9 Brush calzones with egg mixture.
  • Step #10 Place on lightly greased baking sheets.
  • Step #11 Bake at 450° for 6 to 8 mins or until golden brown.
  • Step #12 (Do not overbake.
  • Step #13 ) Serve as soon as possible.
