Four-alarm Red Salsa Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tsps dried oregano
  • 1 (8-oz) can tomato sauce
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c sliced tomatillos (about 2)
  • 3 c sliced onion
  • 1 oz dried chile arbols, seeded
  • 1 1/2 tsps ground cumin
  • 1 c water
  • 1/2 c boiling water

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine chiles & boiling water; let this stand 30 mins.
  • Step #2 Drain.
  • Step #3 Combine chiles, onion, & next 6 ingredients (onion through garlic) in a medium saucepan.
  • Step #4 Place over medium-high heat; bring to a boil.
  • Step #5 Reduce heat; simmer 20 mins.
  • Step #6 Remove from heat; cool 15 mins.
  • Step #7 Place onion mixture in a mixer or food processor/blender; process until mixed (do not overmix).
  • Step #8 Add tomato sauce; stir well.
