Anchovy Puffs Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c minced fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 cans (2 oz. each) anchovy fillets in olive oil
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (1/2 of a 17 1/4 oz. package), thawed
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled

Directions
  • Step #1 Remove the anchovy fillets from the oil, reserving the oil.
  • Step #2 Cut fillets into small pieces.
  • Step #3 Set aside.
  • Step #4 In a small bowl, mix the oil with the garlic cloves.
  • Step #5 Using the back of a fork or a mortar & pestle, mash garlic & oil to make a paste.
  • Step #6 If necessary, roll thawed pastry sheet into a 10- by 12-inch rectangle.
  • Step #7 With a pastry brush, spread pastry sheet with the oil-and-garlic paste.
  • Step #8 Then cut pastry into 120 pieces, each 1 inch square.
  • Step #9 Top each square with a piece or two of anchovy & a pinch of thyme.
  • Step #10 Place pastry squares on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Step #11 Bake in a 325° oven until the pastry is golden brown & has risen almost an inch, about 25 mins.
  • Step #12 Serve hot or at about room temp.
