Step #1 Preheat the oven to 325F degrees F (165 degrees C).
Step #2 Grease & flour one 9 or 10 inch tube pan.
Step #3 In a large bowl cream the butter or margarine with the sugar.
Step #4 Beat in the eggs then add the water & the vanilla.
Step #5 Stir the flour, cocoa, baking soda, ground cinnamon & ground nutmeg together.
Step #6 Beat this mixture into the creamed mixture.
Step #7 Stir in the sliced apples & the semisweet chocolate chips.
Step #8 Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Step #9 Bake at 325F degrees F (165 degrees C) for 1 hr & 15 mins or until the cake tests done when a toothpick is inserted near the center.
Step #10 Transfer to a rack to cool.
Step #11 Makes about 16 servings.
