Diane's German Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 1/3 c vegetable oil
  • 1 (3.5 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 (18.25 oz) package butter cake mix
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 c flaked coconut
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 (12 fluid oz) can evaporated milk
  • 1/3 c unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 c sliced pecans

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Grease & flour three 8 inch round cake pans.
  • Step #3 Combine the cake mix, cocoa, instant vanilla pudding, buttermilk, vegetable oil & the 3 whole eggs.
  • Step #4 Mix until mixed & pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  • Step #5 Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 20 to 25 mins or until the cakes test done.
  • Step #6 Set cakes aside to cool.
  • Step #7 In a medium sized sauce pan mix the evaporated milk, white sugar, 3 egg yolks & the butter.
  • Step #8 Cook over med-heat/flame until the mixture is thick.
  • Step #9 Remove from heat & beat until partially cooled.
  • Step #10 Beat in the vanilla.
  • Step #11 Stir in the flaked coconut & the sliced pecans.
  • Step #12 Use to fill & frost cake.
