Apple-brie Braid With Almonds Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsps butter or stick margarine, divided
  •  Cooking spray
  • 1 tsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 (1-lb) loaf frozen white bread dough
  • 3 tbsps sliced slivered almonds
  • 1/2 c packed brown sugar, divided
  • 4 c finely sliced peeled Granny Smith apple (about 1 1/4 lbs)
  • 4 oz Brie cheese

Directions
  • Step #1 Thaw dough in refrigerator 12 hrs.
  • Step #2 Melt 1 tbsp butter in a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Step #3 Add apples; sauté 10 mins.
  • Step #4 Add 1/4 c brown sugar; cook 5 mins.
  • Step #5 Remove from heat; stir in the almonds.
  • Step #6 Roll dough into a 15 x 12-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  • Step #7 Place on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.
  • Step #8 Spread apple mixture lengthwise down center of dough.
  • Step #9 Remove rind from cheese; cube.
  • Step #10 Arrange cheese on top of apple mixture.
  • Step #11 Make diagonal cuts, 1 1/2 inches apart, on opposite sides of filling to within 1/2 inch of filling.
  • Step #12 Fold strips alternately over filling from each side, overlapping at an angle.
  • Step #13 Cover up & let rise in a warm place (85°), free from drafts 1 1/2 hrs or until doubled in size.
  • Step #14 Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Step #15 Combine 1/4 c brown sugar & flour in a medium bowl; cut in 1 tbsp butter with a pastry mixer or 2 knives until mixd.
  • Step #16 Sprinkle top over top of loaf.
  • Step #17 Bake at 350° for 30 mins or until golden.
