Country Ham Scones With Maple Butter Recipe

Ingredients
  •  Maple Butter
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • 1/4 c yellow cornmeal
  • 1 3/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c plus 2 tbsps cold butter, cut up
  • 3/4 c slivered cooked country ham
  • 1 c whipping cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsps sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 6 ingredients in a bowl; cut in butter with a pastry mixer until mixture is crumbly.
  • Step #2 Stir in ham.
  • Step #3 Add whipping cream, stirring with a fork just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  • Step #4 Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 or 4 times.
  • Step #5 Transfer dough to a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Step #6 Pat into a 7" circle.
  • Step #7 Cut into 10 wedges.
  • Step #8 (Do not separate wedges.
  • Step #9 )Bake at 425° for 24 to 26 mins or until scones are golden.
  • Step #10 Let cool slightly.
  • Step #11 Separate wedges; serve warm with Maple Butter.
  • Step #12 Note: Don't be tempted to add more flour to the scone recipe.
  • Step #13 Scone dough should be a bit sticky.
