Hot Browns With Fried Cheese Grits Recipe

Ingredients
  • 8 bacon slices
  •  Cheese Sauce
  • 1 c regular grits
  • 4 tbsps vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 c (4 oz) extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 c shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large sweet onions
  • 1 lb roasted turkey slices
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Prepare 1 c regular grits according to package directions.
  • Step #2 Stir in 1 c (4 oz) shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese until melted.
  • Step #3 Pour hot cooked grits into a greased 9-inch square pan.
  • Step #4 Cover up & chill 8 hrs or until firm.
  • Step #5 Invert onto a cutting board, & cut into 4 squares.
  • Step #6 Cut each square into 4 triangles.
  • Step #7 Fry grits, in batches, in 2 tbsps hot vegetable oil In a large-ish nonstick skillet over medium-high heat 2 mins on each side or until golden brown.
  • Step #8 Remove from pan, & set aside.
  • Step #9 Cook 2 large sliced sweet onions & 1 tbsp sugar in 2 tbsps hot oil in skillet over medium-high heat, stirring costantly, 20 mins or until deep golden brown.
  • Step #10 Arrange 4 grits triangles in a single layer in a lightly greased individual baking dish; top this with turkey, sautèed onion, & Cheese Sauce.
  • Step #11 Repeat with remaining grits triangles, turkey, onion, & Cheese Sauce.
  • Step #12 Broil 6 inches from heat 4 mins or until bubbly & lightly browned; remove this from oven.
  • Step #13 Top evenly with bacon & tomato.
  • Step #14 Serve as soon as possibleNote: A lightly greased 15- x 10-inch jellyroll pan may be substituted for individual baking dishes.
  • Step #15 Arrange triangles evenly in bottom of pan.
  • Step #16 Top evenly with turkey, onion, & Cheese Sauce.
