Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tsps sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 c buttermilk
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • 1/3 c shortening

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 5 ingredients In a large-ish bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry mixer until mixture is crumbly.
  • Step #2 Add buttermilk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
  • Step #3 Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, & knead lightly 4 or 5 times.
  • Step #4 Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness, cut with a 2 1/2-inch round cutter, & place on lightly greased baking sheets.
  • Step #5 Brush biscuits with egg.
  • Step #6 Bake at 425° for 10 mins or until golden.
