Ham And Cheese Scones Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp ground red pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 c fat-free buttermilk
  • 2 tsps sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsps chilled butter, cut into small pieces
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c finely sliced 33%-less-sodium ham (about 3 oz)
  •  Cooking spray
  • 3/4 c (3 oz) shredded reduced-fat extra-sharp cheddar cheese

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 400°.
  • Step #2 Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring c; level with a knife.
  • Step #3 Combine flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, & pepper In a large-ish bowl; cut in butter with a pastry mixer or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  • Step #4 Stir in cheese & ham.
  • Step #5 Combine buttermilk & egg whites, stirring with a whisk.
  • Step #6 Add to flour mixture, stirring just until moist.
  • Step #7 Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 4 to 5 times with floured hands.
  • Step #8 Pat dough into an 8-inch circle on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.
  • Step #9 Cut dough into 8 wedges, cutting into but not through dough.
  • Step #10 Bake at 400° for 20 mins or until lightly browned.
