Heavenly Scones Recipe

Ingredients
  •  About 2 3/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  •  About 1/2 c sugar
  • 3/4 c buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  •  About 1/2 c (1/4 lb.) butter or margarine, at about room temp
  • 3 tbsps hazelnut-flavor liqueur, such as Frangelico
  • 3/4 c mini- or coarsely sliced semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp baking powder

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large bowl, chocolate chips, baking powder, stir this together 2 3/4 c flour, & baking soda.
  • Step #2 In another bowl with a mixer on medium-high speed, beat 1/2 c butter with 1/2 c sugar until fluffy; beat in egg.
  • Step #3 Stir in buttermilk & liqueur.
  • Step #4 Scrape butter mixture into dry ingredients; stir just until evenly moistened.
  • Step #5 Sprinkle top 1 tsp sugar over bottom of a buttered 9-inch pie pan.
  • Step #6 Scrape dough into center of pan; sprinkle another 1 to 2 tsps sugar onto dough.
  • Step #7 Pat carefully into an 8-inch-wide round.
  • Step #8 With a floured knife, cut through dough to pan to make 8 equal triangles.
  • Step #9 Bake in a 350° oven until scones are golden brown & just begin to pull from pan sides, 50 to 55 mins.
  • Step #10 Slide a wide spatula under scones, then slip out onto a rack; let cool 10 mins.
  • Step #11 Cut wedges apart & serve.
