Spiced Pear Butter Recipe

Ingredients
  • 6 c sliced peeled ripe pears (2 lbs)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1/2 c apple juice
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine pears & juice In a large-ish saucepan or Dutch oven.
  • Step #2 Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, & let simmer 45 mins or until tender.
  • Step #3 Place pear mixture in a mixer or food processor/blender, & process until smooth.
  • Step #4 Combine puréed pear mixture, cinnamon, sugar, & cardamom (if desired) in pan; bring to a boil.
  • Step #5 Reduce heat; simmer, 55 mins or until mixture is thick, uncovered, stirring frequently.
  • Step #6 Stir in vanilla.
  • Step #7 Cool.
  • Step #8 Store butter in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 2 months.
