Cinnamon Streusel Buttermilk Coffee Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c granulated sugar
  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  •  About 2/3 c (1/3 lb.) melted butter or margarine
  • 1 large egg, beaten to mix
  • 1 c firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 c sliced pecans or almonds
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Directions
  • Step #1 In a large bowl, nutmeg, flour, granulated sugar, mix brown sugar, & 2/3 c butter.
  • Step #2 Transfer 1 packed c of the sugar mixture to a small bowl.
  • Step #3 Add nuts & cinnamon, mixing well.
  • Step #4 To the mixture in the large bowl, buttermilk, baking powder, add egg, & baking soda; mix well.
  • Step #5 Pour batter into a buttered 9-inch cheesecake pan with removable rim.
  • Step #6 Sprinkle top cinnamon-nut mixture evenly over batter.
  • Step #7 Bake in a 350° oven until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean & cake begins to pull from pan sides, about 40 mins (about 35 mins in convection oven).
  • Step #8 Cool on a rack at least 20 mins.
  • Step #9 Remove pan rim.
  • Step #10 Serve warm or cool.
