Coconut Macaroons From White Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 (7 oz) package sweetened flaked coconut
  • 16 slices white bread
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

Directions
  • Step #1 Trim crusts from bread slices, & cut each slice into thirds.
  • Step #2 Lay out the slices on cookie sheets to dry out - a few hrs or overnight.
  • Step #3 Turn over once for even drying.
  • Step #4 It is important that they dry out thoroughly like croutons.
  • Step #5 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Step #6 Coat cookie sheets with cooking spray.
  • Step #7 Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a shallow dish, & put the coconut in a separate bowl.
  • Step #8 Dip bread pieces in the condensed milk, & then in the coconut.
  • Step #9 Lay on the greased baking sheets.
  • Step #10 Bake for 6 to10 mins in the preheated oven, until lightly toasted.
  • Step #11 Be careful, as the sweetened coconut flakes tend to burn easily.
  • Step #12 Remove from baking sheets & allow this to cool.
