Five-grain Cereal With Apricots, Apples, And Bananas Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c cracked wheat
  • 1/3 c wheat bran
  • 1/2 c oat bran
  • 13 1/2 c water
  • 2/3 c dried apricots, coarsely sliced
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 c dried apple, coarsely sliced
  • 2/3 c dried banana chips
  • 1 1/4 c steel-cut (Irish) oats
  • 1/2 c uncooked regular grits
  • 1/3 c flaxseed

Directions
  • Step #1 Place flaxseed in a spice or coffee grinder; process until coarsely ground.
  • Step #2 Combine flaxseed, & remaining ingredients except water In a large-ish bowl, oats, stirring well to mix.
  • Step #3 Bring water to a boil In a large-ish saucepan.
  • Step #4 Add cereal; cover, reduce heat, & let simmer 15 mins, stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #5 Uncover & cook 2 mins or until thick, stirring constantly.
  • Step #6 Serve as soon as possible.
