Ingredients
1/2 tsp baking soda
Cooking spray
1/2 c 1% low-fat milk
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c sliced pitted dates
1/4 c firmly packed brown sugar
3 tbsps maple syrup
1 1/2 tsps baking powder
2 c all-purpose flour
1/3 c chilled stick margarine, cut into small pieces
Directions
Step #1 Preheat oven to 400°.
Step #2 Combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl; cut in margarine with a pastry mixer or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Step #3 Add dates; toss well.
Step #4 Combine milk & syrup.
Step #5 Add to flour mixture, stirring just until moist.
Step #6 Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead 4 or 5 times.
Step #7 Pat dough into an 8-inch circle on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.
Step #8 Cut dough into 12 wedges, cutting into, but not through, dough.
Step #9 Bake at 400° for 15 mins or until golden.
Step #10 Serve warm.
