Hot Cross Buns Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsps brandy
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 3/4 c powdered sugar
  • 1/2 c golden raisins
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 loaf frozen bread dough (1 lb.)

Directions
  • Step #1 Thaw frozen bread dough following package directions.
  • Step #2 Place In a large-ish bowl, & let this stand until pliable & no longer cold, cover, 30 mins to 1 hr.
  • Step #3 In a small bowl, soak raisins in brandy for 30 to 40 mins.
  • Step #4 Add raisin mixture & nutmeg to dough.
  • Step #5 In bowl or on a board, knead raisins into dough.
  • Step #6 With floured hands, divide dough into 12 equal pieces; shape into round rolls.
  • Step #7 Place about 2 inches apart on a buttered baking sheet.
  • Step #8 Cover up & let rise in a warm place until almost doubled, about 20 mins.
  • Step #9 In a bowl, beat egg with 1 tbsp water.
  • Step #10 Brush buns with egg mixture (discard remainder).
  • Step #11 Bake rolls in a 350º oven until golden brown, about 20 mins.
  • Step #12 Transfer to a rack & let this stand 10 mins.
  • Step #13 In a bowl, mix powdered sugar & milk.
  • Step #14 With a spoon, drizzle icing over buns in the shape of a large X.
