Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Grease & flour an 11x7 inch pan.
  • Step #3 In a large bowl, mix flour & sugar together.
  • Step #4 Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step #5 Reserve 1/2 c of this mixture as crumbs for top of cake.
  • Step #6 To the remaining flour mixture stir in the the cinnamon, cloves, baking soda & salt.
  • Step #7 Blend in egg & buttermilk.
  • Step #8 Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Step #9 Sprinkle top reserved crumb mixture over top.
  • Step #10 Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 mins, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Step #11 Allow to cool.
