Sticky Bun French Toast Recipe

Ingredients
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 c milk
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 c sliced pecans or walnuts
  •  About 1/4 c (1/8 lb.) butter or margarine
  • 1 c half-and-half (light cream)
  • 1/2 c firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 sourdough baguette (8 oz.), cut diagonally in 1-inch-thick slices

Directions
  • Step #1 Lightly butter a 9- by 13-inch pan.
  • Step #2 Lay baguette slices on a cut side in a single layer in pan, squeezing if needed to make them fit.
  • Step #3 In a mixer or in a bowl with a whisk, half-and-half, milk, nutmeg, whirl or beat eggs, cinnamon, & vanilla to mix well.
  • Step #4 Pour egg mixture over bread to moisten evenly.
  • Step #5 Cover up & put in the fridge at least 8 or up to 24 hrs.
  • Step #6 In a 1- to 2-quart pan over med-heat/flame, stir 1/4 c butter with brown sugar, corn syrup, & pecans until butter melts.
  • Step #7 Uncover bread mixture & spread slices evenly with the butter mixture, using all of it.
  • Step #8 Bake, uncovered, in a 350° oven until topping is browned & bubbly, about 45 mins.
  • Step #9 Scoop portions into bowls.
