Danish Pastry Apple Barsi Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsps ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 c cold water
  • 3/4 c white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 c butter
  • 1 c cornflakes cereal
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 10 apples - peeled, cored & sliced
  • 1/2 c confectioners' sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Step #2 In a large bowl, mix flour & salt.
  • Step #3 Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step #4 In a c, beat egg yolk, stir the cold water into the yolk.
  • Step #5 Gradually stir the egg mixture into the flour mixture until dough can be packed into a ball.
  • Step #6 On a clean dry surface, roll out 1/2 of the dough large enough to cover the bottom & sides of a 9x13 inch pan.
  • Step #7 Lay the dough in the pan.
  • Step #8 Place the cornflakes over the dough in the pan.
  • Step #9 Arrange apple slices over the top of the corn flake layer.
  • Step #10 Sprinkle top the sugar & cinnamon over the apples.
  • Step #11 Roll out the second half of the dough to cover the entire pan.
  • Step #12 Lay over the filling & pinch the edges of the two crusts together.
  • Step #13 Beat the egg white until foamy, & brush onto the top crust.
  • Step #14 Bake for 45 to 50 mins in the preheated oven, until golden brown.
  • Step #15 Drizzle with glaze while still warm.
  • Step #16 To make the glaze: In a small bowl, beat the confectioners' sugar with the milk & almond extract until smooth.
