French Paint Perdu Lost Bread With
Ingredients
1 c fresh blackberries
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
16 (1-inch-thick) slices diagonally cut French bread baguette
1/4 c granulated sugar
1/4 c granulated sugar
1/2 c dry white wine
1/2 c fresh strawberry halves
1 c fresh blueberries
1 1/2 c fat-free milk
1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract
3/4 c egg substitute
2 c fresh raspberries
2 c water
1 tbsp powdered sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 c butter, divided
Directions
Step #1 Combine first 7 ingredients, stirring well with a whisk.
Step #2 Arrange the bread slices in a single layer In a large-ish shallow dish.
Step #3 Pour milk mixture over bread, & let this stand until milk is absorbed (about 2 mins).
Step #4 Melt 2 tbsps butter In a large-ish cast-iron skillet over med-heat/flame.
Step #5 Arrange 8 bread slices in pan; cook 3 mins on each side or until bread is golden brown.
Step #6 Remove from pan; keep warm.
Step #7 Repeat procedure with remaining 2 tbsps butter & 8 bread slices.
Step #8 Combine 2 c water, & cornstarch In a large-ish saucepan, wine, 1/4 c granulated sugar, stirring with a whisk.
Step #9 Bring to a boil; cook this until reduced to 1 c (about 5 mins).
Step #10 Remove pan from heat.
Step #11 Add fruit to pan, stirring well to coat.
Step #12 Serve sauce with bread slices.
Step #13 Sprinkle top each serving with powdered sugar.
