Spiced Winter Fruit Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 c sliced peeled Granny Smith apple (about 1 1/2 lbs)
  • 3 c sliced peeled Bartlett or Anjou pear (about 1 1/2 lbs)
  • 2 quinces, each cut into 8 wedges (about 3/4 lb)
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsps butter or stick margarine
  • 1 c packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  •  Cinnamon sticks (optional)
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 4 ingredients in a small bowl; set aside.
  • Step #2 Melt butter In a large-ish nonstick skillet over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #3 Add quinces; cover & cook 6 mins, stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #4 Add sugar mixture, pear, & apple; cover & cook 12 mins, stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #5 Stir in pepper; garnish with cinnamon sticks, if desired.
  • Step #6 Note: This dish will hold up for up to 3 days if put in the fridged in an airtight container.
  • Step #7 To serve, reheat over low heat/flame.
