Ingredients
1/2 c brown sugar
1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 c butter
1 c sliced walnuts
1 tsp baking soda
1/3 c heavy cream
1 c dates, pitted & sliced
1 c water
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c butter
1 c white sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions
Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step #2 Grease & flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
Step #3 In a saucepan over med-heat/flame, bring dates & water to a boil.
Step #4 Stir in 1/2 c butter & 1 c sugar until melted.
Step #5 Remove from heat & stir in the baking soda.
Step #6 Let cool for 10 mins.
Step #7 Place date mixture into a large bowl.
Step #8 Blend in flour, eggs & vanilla.
Step #9 Stir in sliced walnuts.
Step #10 Pour batter into prepared pan.
Step #11 Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 mins, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Step #12 Let cool in pan for 10 mins, then turn out onto a wire rack & cool completely.
Step #13 Serve slices with Warm Sauce.
Step #14 To make Warm Sauce: In a saucepan over med-heat/flame, mix 1/4 c butter with cream & brown sugar.
Step #15 Heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils & sugar is dissolved.
