Cranberry Christmas Tree Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 c fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 2 tbsps butter, melted
  • 1/4 c cream cheese-flavored ready-made frosting
  • 1 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 (16-oz) package frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1/3 c sliced walnuts (optional)
  • 1 1/2 tsps grated orange rind

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 4 ingredients in a medium saucepan, stirring well.
  • Step #2 (Frozen berries do not have to thaw first.
  • Step #3 ) Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 10 mins).
  • Step #4 Set aside, & cool.
  • Step #5 Roll dough into an 18" x 9" rectangle; brush with melted butter.
  • Step #6 Spread cranberry mixture over dough to within 1/2" of edges.
  • Step #7 Sprinkle top with walnuts, if desired.
  • Step #8 Roll up dough, starting at long side, pressing carefully to contain filling; pinch ends to seal.
  • Step #9 Cut roll this into 16 equal slices (about 1 1/8" thick).
  • Step #10 On lower third of a large greased baking sheet, cut sides up, arrange 5 slices, in a row with edges touching.
  • Step #11 Form tree with extra rows of rolls, ending with 1 roll on top of tree & 1 roll on bottom for trunk.
  • Step #12 Cover up & let rise in a warm place (85°), free from drafts, 30 to 45 mins or until doubled in bulk.
  • Step #13 Bake at 350° for 20 mins or until lightly browned.
  • Step #14 Carefully remove this from baking sheet, & cool on a wire rack.
  • Step #15 Place frosting in a 2-c glass measuring c.
  • Step #16 Microwave, uncovered, at HIGH for 20 to 25 seconds or until drizzling consistency; drizzle over bread.
