Orange-pecan Scones Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c sugar
  •  Sugar
  • 1/2 c sliced pecans
  • 2 c self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c buttermilk
  • 1/3 c butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c fresh orange juice
  • 2 tsps grated orange rind
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 3 ingredients.
  • Step #2 Cut butter into flour mixture with a pastry mixer until crumbly; add buttermilk & next 3 ingredients, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  • Step #3 Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 or 4 times.
  • Step #4 Divide dough in half; pat each portion into a 7-inch circle, & place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Step #5 Cut each circle into 8 wedges; sprinkle evenly with sugar.
  • Step #6 Bake at 425° for 12 to 14 mins or until golden brown.
  • Step #7 Note: Freeze scones up to 1 month.
  • Step #8 Thaw in refrigerator 8 hrs.
  • Step #9 Bake scones at 350º for 10 mins or until thoroughly heated.
