Ingredients
  • 2 c self-rising soft wheat flour
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 3/4 c shortening
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 3 ingredients In a large-ish bowl; cut in shortening with pastry mixer until mixture is crumbly.
  • Step #2 Add buttermilk, stirring with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened.
  • Step #3 (Dough will resemble cottage cheese & be sticky.
  • Step #4 )Turn dough out onto a heavily floured surface, & knead lightly 4 or 5 times.
  • Step #5 Roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch round cutter.
  • Step #6 Stack two baking sheets, one on top of the other.
  • Step #7 Lightly grease top baking sheet.
  • Step #8 Place biscuits on top baking sheet, & bake this at 450° for 10 to 12 mins or until lightly browned.
  • Step #9 Brush with butter.
