Mediterranean Torte Recipe

Ingredients
  • 8 oz thinly sliced cooked ham
  • 1 (32-oz) package frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1 (6-oz) can pitted ripe olives
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 (14-oz) can artichoke heart quarters
  • 1 (12-oz) jar marinated red pepper strips
  • 8 oz thinly sliced salami
  • 8 oz thinly sliced provolone cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 (10-oz) packages frozen sliced spinach, thawed
  • 1 lb small fresh mushrooms

Directions
  • Step #1 Cut 1 bread loaf in half crosswise.
  • Step #2 Roll out 1 half on a lightly floured surface into a 10-inch circle.
  • Step #3 Cover up, & set aside.
  • Step #4 Press together remaining 1 1/2 dough loaves, & roll out onto a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle.
  • Step #5 Fit dough into a 9-inch springform pan, allowing edges to overhang.
  • Step #6 Drain spinach, red pepper strips, artichokes, & olives.
  • Step #7 Press spinach & red pepper strips between layers of paper towels, & set aside.
  • Step #8 Sauté mushrooms in a nonstick skillet 8 mins; drain.
  • Step #9 Layer half of salami, mushrooms, & olives in dough-lined pan; top this with half of cheese slices.
  • Step #10 Layer with half of ham, remaining salami, remaining ham, pepper strips, spinach, & artichokes; top this with remaining cheese slices.
  • Step #11 Stir together egg & water; brush on overhanging pastry edges.
  • Step #12 Top torte with remaining pastry round.
  • Step #13 Fold overhanging edges over top pastry, crimping as necessary, & press to seal.
  • Step #14 Brush top this with remaining egg mixture.
  • Step #15 Bake at 350° on bottom oven rack 30 to 35 mins.
  • Step #16 Remove from oven, & cover with aluminum foil wrap, if necessary, to prevent excessive browning.
  • Step #17 Bake 15 to 20 more mins.
  • Step #18 Cool in pan on a wire rack.
  • Step #19 Remove sides of pan, & cut into wedges.
