Merridee's Swedish Coleslaw Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c sugar .
  • 1/2 c water .
  • 1 tsp celery seeds .
  • 1 quart cabbage (shredded) .
  • 4 tsps salt .
  • 1/2 c cider vinegar .
  • 2 c water .
  • 1 medium onion (sliced fine) (optional)

Directions
  • Step #1 Soak cabbage & onion in a brine of the 2 c water & 4 tsps salt for 1/2 hr.
  • Step #2 Drain & rinse briefly.
  • Step #3 Cook together & cool the sugar, water, vinegar & celery seed.
  • Step #4 Add dressing to drained cabbage & store this in tightly covered container in refrigerator.
