Chocolate Kahlua Mousse Trifle
Ingredients
1 (12 oz) package semisweet chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 c white sugar
1/4 c white sugar
1/4 c butter, softened
21 chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
1 c heavy cream
1 c heavy cream, chilled
1 pinch salt
2 c heavy cream
Directions
Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step #2 Generously grease a 9 inch springform pan with 2 3/4 inch sides.
Step #3 In a medium bowl, mix together crushed cookies & softened butter or margarine.
Step #4 Press mixture evenly into greased pan.
Step #5 Bake in preheated oven for 5 mins, then allow this to cool.
Step #6 Combine 1 c cream, & salt, vanilla extract, chocolate, in the top of a double boiler.
Step #7 Heat until chocolate is fully melted & mixture is smooth.
Step #8 Alternatively, vanilla extract, you can mix mixture by placing chocolate, if you have a food processor/blender, & salt, in processor bowl.
Step #9 Bring 1 c cream to a boil on stovetop, then slowly pour cream into processor with blade running.
Step #10 Continue to process until mixture is smooth.
Step #11 Pour chocolate mixture into a bowl & cool to about room temp, stirring every once in awhile.
Step #12 In a large bowl, beat 2 c chilled cream with 1/4 c sugar.
Step #13 Beat until stiff peaks form.
Step #14 Fold whipped cream into chocolate mixture.
Step #15 Pour mixture into cooled crust.
Step #16 Chill pie at least 6 hrs before serving.
Step #17 Prior to serving, beat remaining 1 c cream with 1/4 c sugar.
Step #18 Beat until stiff, then pipe onto top of pie with a star tip, or place a spoonful on top of each slice.
