Chili In A Bread Bowl Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c butter or margarine
  • BREAD BOWL:
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can sliced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1/4 c grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2/3 c water
  • 1 (16 oz) can kidney beans, rinsed & drained
  • 1 tbsp cornmeal
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 c sliced onion
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 lb ground beef

Directions
  • Step #1 In a saucepan, brown beef with onion; drain.
  • Step #2 Add next five ingredients; simmer, uncovered, for 20 mins.
  • Step #3 Grease a 9-in.
  • Step #4 heart-shaped or round baking pan; sprinkle with cornmeal & set aside.
  • Step #5 In a saucepan over med-heat/flame, bring water & butter to a boil.
  • Step #6 Add flour, Parmesan & baking powder; stir until a smooth ball forms.
  • Step #7 Remove from heat; beat in eggs, one at a time.
  • Step #8 Continue beating until the mixture is smooth & shiny.
  • Step #9 Spread into prepared pan, building up edges slightly.
  • Step #10 Bake at 425F degrees F for 25-30 mins or until the center is firm & puffed & edges are golden brown.
  • Step #11 Make a shallow slit in the center to allow steam to escape.
  • Step #12 Cool for 5 mins before removing to a serving plate.
  • Step #13 Fill with chili; serve as soon as possible.
