Step #1 Pare oranges with a sharp knife & cut the peel into slivers.
Step #2 Place the orange & peel into a small saucepan & cover with cold water.
Step #3 Bring to a boil.
Step #4 Reduce heat & let simmer for 5 mins.
Step #5 Drain off water & add 1/2 c sugar.
Step #6 Continue to simmer for 5 mins, or until mixture turns thick & syrupy, stirring constantly.
Step #7 Remove from heat & cool completely in the pot.
Step #8 In a large bowl, beat the eggs with a wire whisk until light.
Step #9 Add remaining 1 c sugar & whisk until well mixed.
Step #10 beat in milk before beating in the candied orange peel & butter or margarine.
Step #11 Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt & ground ginger in a medium bowl.
Step #12 Add flour to batter & mix just until batter is mixed.
Step #13 Stir in nuts just until mixed.
Step #14 DO NOT OVER-MIX! Preheat oven to 325°F Pour bread batter inot a greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.
Step #15 Bake about 1 hr 20 mins, or unitl toothpick insterted in center comes out clean.
Step #16 Cool in pan on a wire rack for 10 mins.
Step #17 Remove to a serving plate.
Step #18 Mix confectioners' sugar, vanilla, & enough milk to make a glaze.
Step #19 Drizzle on the cooled loaf.
