Tourtiere (french Canadian Meat Pie) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3/4 c water .
  • 2 carrots (sliced) .
  • 1/2 lb ground pork .
  • 1/2 lb ground veal .
  • 1/2 lb ground beef .
  • 2-3 celery ribs (sliced) .
  • salt & pepper .
  • 2 medium potatoes (grated) .
  • 1/8 tsp cloves .
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon .
  • 4 tsps chicken bouillon .
  • 1 garlic clove .
  • 1 bay leaf .
  • 2 pie crusts, & tops .
  • 1 tbsp water .
  • 1 egg yolk .
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg .
  • 1 medium onion

Directions
  • Step #1 In large skillet, brown meat with onion & garlic.
  • Step #2 Drain fat.
  • Step #3 Stir in water, carrot, celery, boullion & bay leaf.
  • Step #4 Bring to a boil.
  • Step #5 Reduce heat & let simmer 7-8 mins.
  • Step #6 Remove from heat & add potatoes & spices.
  • Step #7 Spoon into pie shells.
  • Step #8 Cover up with pastry topping.
  • Step #9 Combine egg yolk, water & brush lightly on crust.
  • Step #10 Bake 375°F 30-40 mins.
  • Step #11 Serve with brown gravy & salad.
