Basil Tomato Tart Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c mayonnaise .
  • 1/8 tsp pepper .
  • 1 c basil leaves, loosely packed .
  • 1/4 c parmesan cheese, grated .
  • 1 1/2 c mozzarella cheese, shredded .
  • 4 garlic cloves .
  • 5 roma tomatoes .
  • 1 (9 inch) pie crusts

Directions
  • Step #1 Place crust in a 9" pie pan, flute edge & press bottom with a fork.
  • Step #2 Pre-bake according to directions.
  • Step #3 Remove from oven & sprinkle with 1/2 c mozzarella cheese.
  • Step #4 Cool on a wire rack.
  • Step #5 Cut tomatoes into wedges; drain on paper towels.
  • Step #6 Arrange tomato atop melted cheese in the pie shell.
  • Step #7 In a food processor/blender bowl, mix basil & garlic.
  • Step #8 Process till coarsely sliced & sprinkle it over tomatoes.
  • Step #9 Combine remaining mozzarella, mayonnaise, parmesan & pepper.
  • Step #10 Spoon over basil mixture, spreading evenly to cover the top.
  • Step #11 Bake in a 375 degree oven for 35-40 mins or till top is golden & bubbly.
  • Step #12 Serve warm.
  • Step #13 Makes 8 appetizer or 4 main dish servings.
  • Step #14 Leftovers are even better.
  • Step #15 Serve at about room temp & DO NOT reheat.
