Ingredients
  • frosting ingredients .
  • 1/2 c butter .
  • 3 c sifted powdered sugar .
  • water .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 3/4 c unsalted butter .
  • 2 eggs .
  • tinted cake decorating gel .
  • 1 1/4 c packed light brown sugar .
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice .
  • 1 tsp vanilla .
  • 1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract .
  • holiday candy sprinkles .
  • 2 tsps baking powder .
  • 3 c sifted all-purpose flour .
  • colored sugar sprinkle, etc

Directions
  • Step #1 Cream butter, add sugar & beat until light & fluffy.
  • Step #2 Add vanilla & lemon juice.
  • Step #3 Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Step #4 Sift flour, baking powder & salt & add to creamed mixture & mix well.
  • Step #5 Chill, then roll dough to about 1/8 inch or thicker.
  • Step #6 Cut into various sized Christmas trees.
  • Step #7 Squeeze bottom of trunk a little so it will fit into jelly wreaths when baked.
  • Step #8 Bake in preheated hot oven at 425F degrees F for 5 mins or until edges are lightly browned.
  • Step #9 Cool.
  • Step #10 Cover up with frosting; decorate.
  • Step #11 For Frosting:.
  • Step #12 Heat & boil the 1/2 c butter in heavy saucepan until lightly browned; do not burn.
  • Step #13 Stir in 3 c powdered sugar & vanilla.
  • Step #14 Add water a few drops at a time until frosting is of spreading consistency.
  • Step #15 Frost cookies, bits of candied cherries, then decorate with cake decorator using colored icing of your choice & top off with sprinkles, etc.
  • Step #16 To stand, set each in ring of bought jellied candies.
