Fish And Chips Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c beer (not dark) .
  • For the batter .
  • 1 pinch fresh ground black pepper .
  • 1 pinch salt .
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder .
  • 1/2 lb white fish fillets (cod or halibut) .
  • 1 c flour, & a little more for dusting

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine all batter ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • Step #2 Cut the fillets into desired sized pieces.
  • Step #3 Dust fillets with flour.
  • Step #4 Dip the fillets in the batter.
  • Step #5 Fry fillets in deep fryer at 375 degrees or in a skillet with at least 2 inches of vegetable oil until golden brown.
  • Step #6 Don't crowd the fillets while frying.
  • Step #7 Drain fillets on paper towels or brown paper bags from the grocery store.
  • Step #8 Serve with french fries, cocktail sauce, tarter sauce, malt vinegar & cole slaw or cucumber salad (see Zaar recipe 211355).
