Toad In The Hole - Traditional Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 egg .
  • 4 oz flour .
  • 1 tbsp oil .
  • 6-8 sausages .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 1/2 pint milk

Directions
  • Step #1 Sieve flour & salt into a bowl.
  • Step #2 add beaten egg, along with some of the milk, beat for a min or two.
  • Step #3 add in the remaining milk.
  • Step #4 place the batter mixture into the fridge for an hr or so to get really cold.
  • Step #5 Heat oven 420f ( 210c) use a medium roasting dish & place oil in the pan.
  • Step #6 heat in the oven until the oil is really hot - if you flick a spot or two of water in the oil & it really sizzles then its hot enough.
  • Step #7 Quickly pour in all the batter & add the sausages, spaced a bit apart.
  • Step #8 Cook for 30-40 mins.
  • Step #9 Lovely served with fresh vegetables of your choice & a gravy.
  • Step #10 I often freeze gravy to use with this type of dish.
