Step #1 Sift the flour, sugar & baking powder together in a bowl.
Step #2 rub in the butter & then mix in th egg.
Step #3 pour in the milk & mix to form a dough.
Step #4 place the dates, bicarb of soda & water in a saucepan.
Step #5 over a low heat, cook carefully until the dates soften & break down.
Step #6 Cool.
Step #7 Preheat the oven to 200C 400°F.
Step #8 fold the gooey dates into the scone dough.
Step #9 roll the dough out onto a floured board to 1 inch thickness & cut with round cutter.
Step #10 place round onto baking sheet & place this in oven.
Step #11 bake for 10 mins.
