Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 pints strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 (12 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/3 c white sugar
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1/4 c cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 c milk
  • 1/4 c white sugar
  • 2 tbsps chocolate syrup

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat an oven to 400F degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Grease two 9 inch layer pans.
  • Step #3 In a large mixing bowl, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa, mix flour, 1/3 c sugar, & salt.
  • Step #4 Cut in butter or margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step #5 Add milk, mixing until just moistened.
  • Step #6 Spread batter evenly into two prepared layer pans.
  • Step #7 Bake at 400F degrees F (200 degrees C) for 15 mins, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Step #8 Cool.
  • Step #9 In a medium-size mixing bowl, mix strawberries & 1/4 c sugar.
  • Step #10 Let the mixture stand 10 mins.
  • Step #11 Cover the bottom shortcake layer with half of strawberry mixture & half of the whipped topping.
  • Step #12 Top with second shortcake layer, remaining strawberry mixture & whipped topping.
  • Step #13 Drizzle with chocolate topping.
