Cincinnati Chili Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 (10.5 oz) cans beef broth
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tbsps cider vinegar
  • 1/2 (1 oz) square unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 c chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 c sliced onion
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 lbs ground beef

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat oil in a large saucepan over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #2 Add onion & cook, until tender, stirring frequently, about 6 mins.
  • Step #3 Add beef, in batches if necessary, breaking up with a wooden spoon, & cook, until browned.
  • Step #4 Add chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, cider vinegar, allspice, chocolate, cloves, beef broth, tomato sauce, bay leaf, & red pepper.
  • Step #5 Stir to mix well.
  • Step #6 Bring to a boil.
  • Step #7 Reduce heat to low; cover & let simmer 1 1/2 hrs, stirring every once in awhile.
  • Step #8 It is the best if you now put in the fridge overnight.
  • Step #9 Remove the bay leaf.
  • Step #10 Reheat carefully over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #11 Serve over hot, drained spaghetti.
  • Step #12 Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
