Salisbury Steak Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 small onion, finely sliced .
  • 1 c mushrooms, sliced .
  • 1 tbsp oil .
  • 2 c beef broth .
  • 1 tbsp butter .
  • 3 tbsps cornstarch .
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten .
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced .
  • 1/3 c dry breadcrumbs .
  • 1 tsp worcestershire sauce .
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper .
  • 1 tsp salt .
  • 3 tbsps cold water .
  • 1 lb ground beef

Directions
  • Step #1 Mix the beef, egg, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, onions, & pepper with your hands in a medium bowl.
  • Step #2 Shape into 4 patties, each about 3/4 to 1 inch thick.
  • Step #3 Melt the butter with the oil In a large-ish skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Step #4 Add the patties & fry for 4 to 5 mins on each side.
  • Step #5 Use a spatula to transfer the patties from the skillet to an oven-proof plate; keep warm.
  • Step #6 Add the sliced onion & mushrooms to the skillet & saute until the mushrooms give up their juice, about 8 mins.
  • Step #7 Stir in the broth, using a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  • Step #8 Heat to boiling, then reduce the heat, cover, & let simmer for 10 mins.
  • Step #9 Dissolve the cornstarch in the water in a small bowl.
  • Step #10 Stir into the mushroom mixture & bring to a boil.
  • Step #11 Cook, stirring, until thickened.
  • Step #12 Pour the mushroom gravy over the patties & serve.
