Maraschino Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips .
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder .
  • 1 1/2 c flour .
  • 1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract .
  • 2 (10 oz) jars maraschino cherries .
  • 1/2 c unsweetened cocoa .
  • 1 large egg .
  • 2 tbsps milk .
  • 1/2 c butter, softened .
  • 1 c sugar .
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Drain maraschino cherries, reserving 1 tsp juice.
  • Step #2 Combine flour, & baking powder in large bowl, cocoa, salt, mix well.
  • Step #3 Put butter & sugar in medium bowl & beat with mixer on medium for 3-4 mins or until well mixed.
  • Step #4 Add egg & vanilla, mix well.
  • Step #5 Add flour mixture, mix well.
  • Step #6 Put chocolate chips & milk in small saucepan & heat over low heat/flame, stirring constantly until melted.
  • Step #7 Stir in reserved maraschino cherry juice.
  • Step #8 Let chocolate cool slightly.
  • Step #9 Shape dough into 1 inch balls & place on ungreased baking pan.
  • Step #10 Push centers in with thumb & spoon 1 tsp of chocolate mixture into each thumbprint.
  • Step #11 Top with a cherry.
  • Step #12 Bake in 350 degree oven for 10-12 mins.
  • Step #13 Remove & cool completely.
  • Step #14 Store in airtight container.
