One-pot Swiss Steak With Mushrooms Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2-2 lbs sirloin tip steaks (3-4) .
  • 3-4 tsps dried oregano .
  • 1 large green bell pepper, seeded & sliced .
  • 2 medium onions, sliced .
  • 1-2 tbsp fresh minced garlic .
  • 2 small bay leaves (or use 1 large) .
  • 2 tbsps butter .
  • 3 c sliced mushrooms .
  • salt & black pepper (to taste) .
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced .
  • 1-2 tsp dried chili pepper flakes, seeded & sliced, to taste (optional) or 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded & sliced, to taste (optional) .
  • 2 tbsps cornstarch (or use beef broth) (optional) .
  • 1-2 tbsp worcestershire sauce .
  • 2 (16 oz) cans stewed tomatoes, with juice .
  • 2 tbsps oil .
  • 1 c water, mixed with .
  • 1-2 tbsp beef bouillon powder (optional)

Directions
  • Step #1 Heat oil & butter In a large-ish Dutch oven over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #2 Add in 2 steaks at a time & brown on each side, remove to a plate.
  • Step #3 Continue with remaining steak/s & remove to a plate.
  • Step #4 Add more oil into the pot if needed,.
  • Step #5 Add in onions, celery, bell pepper, chili flakes (if using) & dried oregano; saute stirring with a wooden spoon for about 3 mins scraping up any browned bits on bottom of the pot.
  • Step #6 Add in garlic & bay leaves & saute for 2 mins.
  • Step #7 Add in mushrooms, stewed tomatoes with juice, Worcestershire sauce & beef bouillon powder (if using) bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  • Step #8 Add the browned steaks back to the pot.
  • Step #9 Spice up with salt & black pepper to taste.
  • Step #10 Reduce heat to medium-low & cook covered for about 1-1/2 hrs.
  • Step #11 If you wish to thicken the juice, remove the beef to a bowl or plate.
  • Step #12 Mix the water or beef broth with cornstarch until smooth & add into the simmering liquid, stir until thickened (about 2 mins) then add in the steaks back to the pot.
