Rum Buns Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c powdered sugar .
  • 1 tsp rum extract .
  • 1/4 c raisins, cut into pieces .
  • 2 tsps butter, melted .
  • 1 c milk, scalded .
  • 1/4 oz dried yeast .
  • 1 egg .
  • 3 1/2 c flour .
  • 2 tbsps hot water .
  • icing .
  • 1/4 c vegetable shortening .
  • 1 1/2 tsps rum extract .
  • 1/2 c sugar .
  • 1 1/4 tsps salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Pour scalded milk over 1/4 c sugar, shortening & salt.
  • Step #2 Cool to lukewarm & sprinkle yeast into it.
  • Step #3 Beat with rotary beater until smooth.
  • Step #4 Add beaten egg & 1 1/2 tsps rum extract.
  • Step #5 Add half the flour & beat with rotary beater until smooth.
  • Step #6 Add remaining flour & mix until smooth.
  • Step #7 Cover up with towel & let rise in a warm place (80 to 85 degrees) until double in bulk - about 3 hrs.
  • Step #8 Roll dough into 2 strips, each 12 inches long, 1/2 inch thick & 4 inches wide.
  • Step #9 Brush top this with melted butter & sprinkle with remaining 1/4 c sugar & raisins.
  • Step #10 Roll up, pulling dough out at edges to keep it uniform.
  • Step #11 It should be 15 inches long when rolled.
  • Step #12 Cut rolls in crosswise slices 3/4 inch thick.
  • Step #13 Place in 3 inch greased muffin tins; cover with towel & let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk.
  • Step #14 Bake at 400F degrees for 15 to 20 mins.
  • Step #15 **To make icing, mix confectioners sugar, hot water & rum extract.
  • Step #16 As soon as rolls are taken from oven, brush top this with the icing.
