Manchurian Dip Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 medium red onion, coarsely sliced .
  • 1 bunch fresh cilantro, including stems, coarsely sliced .
  • 1 tbsp sugar .
  • 1/4 c soy sauce .
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil .
  • 2 c ketchup .
  • 1 large carrot, peeled & coarsely sliced .
  • salt & freshly ground black pepper .
  • 10 medium garlic cloves, peeled .
  • 1 tsp chili powder or 1/2 tsp cayenne .
  • 1 small green chili pepper, seeded & coarsely sliced .
  • 2 large celery ribs, coarsely sliced

Directions
  • Step #1 In a food processor/blender, onion, chile pepper, mix the carrot, celery & cilantro.
  • Step #2 (You may need to purée half these ingredients first to make room for the rest.
  • Step #3 ).
  • Step #4 Add the garlic & pulse until mixed.
  • Step #5 Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Step #6 Put the puréed vegetables in the pan & heat through, 3-4 mins.
  • Step #7 Add the ketchup & soy sauce & cook for 10 mins more.
  • Step #8 (Serious splatter-factor here, be careful.
  • Step #9 ).
  • Step #10 Reduce the heat to medium-low.
  • Step #11 When the sauce starts to thicken, chili powder, add the sugar, & salt & pepper to taste.
  • Step #12 Serve warm for the best flavor or at about room temp.
