Ingredients
1/2 tsp vanilla extract .
1/3 c buttermilk .
2 tbsps canola oil .
1 egg, lightly beaten .
1/2 tsp salt .
2 tbsps brown sugar .
3 tbsps cold butter .
1 tsp sugar .
1 1/2 tsps baking powder .
1 c cake flour .
1/4 tsp baking soda .
1 1/4 c all-purpose flour
Directions
Step #1 Preheat oven to 400°F.
Step #2 In a large bowl, brown sugar, mix the flours, baking powder, baking soda & salt.
Step #3 Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step #4 Combine the egg, buttermilk, oil & vanilla.
Step #5 Add to crumb mixture & stir until a soft dough forms.
Step #6 Turn onto a floured surface & knead carefully 6-8 times.
Step #7 Pat dough into a 6-inch circle & cut into eight wedges.
Step #8 Separate wedges & place 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
Step #9 Brush tops with milk; sprinkle with sugar.
Step #10 Bake for 12-14 mins or until lightly browned.
Step #11 Remove to wire rack & serve warm.
